Ishtar Gate, restored
The Ishtar Gate was dedicated to the goddess sex and warfare, Ishtar. The processional way which passed through this gate led to the Temple of Bel. The architecture of this gate with its twin crenellated towers follows the tradition of earlier Babylonian and Assyrian architecture.
